Conditions We Treat with Osteopathic Manual Therapy

One of the things that sets osteopathic treatment apart is the range of conditions it can address. Because osteopathy treats the body as a connected whole, it often helps with problems that don’t seem obviously “musculoskeletal.” Patients come to us for headaches, digestive issues, breathing difficulties, and anxiety — not just back pain. If you’ve been told there’s nothing more that can be done, or if your symptoms haven’t responded to other treatments, osteopathy may be worth exploring.

Pain & Musculoskeletal Conditions

Back pain, body pain, arthritis, osteoarthritis, tendonitis, and bursitis are among the most common reasons patients seek osteopathic treatment. These conditions often involve restrictions in the joints, muscles, or connective tissue that limit how your body moves and compensates. Osteopathic manual therapy works to release these restrictions gently, restoring natural movement and reducing the strain patterns that contribute to ongoing pain.

Head, Nerve & Sensory Conditions

Migraines, tension headaches, concussions and other brain injuries, dizziness and vertigo, Bell’s palsy, and TMJ dysfunction can all benefit from osteopathic treatment. These conditions often involve tension or restriction in the head, neck, or cranial structures that affects how the nervous system functions. Gentle cranial and fascial techniques can help restore balance and reduce the intensity and frequency of symptoms over time.

Respiratory, Digestive & Internal Conditions

Osteopathy can also address conditions you might not associate with manual therapy. Sinusitis, asthma, bronchitis, shortness of breath, constipation, and esophageal reflux all involve structures — the ribcage, diaphragm, abdominal fascia — that can develop restrictions affecting how your organs function. By improving mobility in these areas, osteopathic treatment supports your body’s natural ability to breathe, digest, and regulate itself more effectively.

Women’s Health, Pediatric & Emotional Well-Being

We treat patients of all ages, from newborns to older adults. Pregnancy-related pain, menstrual problems, birth trauma, colic in infants, difficulty sucking, and ear infections in children all respond well to gentle osteopathic care. We also see patients experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, fatigue, and insomnia. While osteopathy is not a replacement for mental health care, many patients find that releasing long-held physical tension has a meaningful effect on how they feel emotionally and how well they sleep.

How Osteopathic Treatment Works at Coronation

Osteopathic manual therapy is built on the idea that your body has a natural ability to move toward health. When an injury, chronic tension, postural habits, or stress get in the way, your body starts to compensate. Over time, those compensations can lead to pain, stiffness, or dysfunction in areas that seem completely unrelated to the original problem. Osteopathic treatment works by finding and releasing those patterns so your body can heal on its own terms.

Whole-Body Assessment
Every treatment begins with a thorough assessment. Rather than focusing only on the area where you feel pain, we evaluate the body as a connected whole. Pain in your lower back, for example, may be related to restrictions in your pelvis, diaphragm, or even your feet. By looking at the full picture, we can identify the underlying cause of your symptoms and not just where they show up.

Gentle, Hands-On Treatment
Osteopathic treatment at Coronation is gentle. Patients are typically treated lying down, and the techniques involve light touch and sustained pressure rather than forceful manipulation. During a session, some patients feel a deep sense of relaxation, others notice subtle shifts or changes in tension, and some feel very little at all. All of these responses are normal and part of the body's healing process. Each treatment is shaped in the moment based on what your body presents that day, so no two sessions are exactly the same.

An Eclectic, Patient-Specific Approach
Ben draws on a wide range of osteopathic methods rather than following a single technique. This means your treatment is never a formula. It's guided by what your body needs in that moment. By applying osteopathic principles in a patient-specific way, Ben is able to be fully present with each person and help them reconnect with their body's own capacity for healing.

After Your Treatment
Following a session, it's normal to feel tired or mildly sore for a few days. This is a sign that your body is responding to treatment and beginning to change. We recommend reasonable rest for two to three days, staying well hydrated, and going for gentle walks. Acute injuries are often resolved in one or two treatments, while more complex or long-standing conditions may take longer. There is no set number of sessions. At each visit, you are reassessed so your care always reflects where your body is right now.
